Jan Bartlema
studied the guitar under Pieter van der Staak and Jorge Oraison and with
the Czech guitarist Milan Zelenka, with whom he later gave several concerts
and did radio recordings in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. Besides
playing solo recitals and guitar concertos with orchestra, he is very
involved in chamber music (he is a member of the Juerga Ensemble, which
consists of two guitars, flute and soprano). His repertoire shows a preference
for orginality and his search for 'new music' has been rewarded with compositions,
which have been dedicated to him. In particular, he has great interest
in the music written by Dutch native composers. He recorded a CD with
works by the Dutch female composer Annette Kruisbrink, and has also published
a set of six guitar solos with "De Haske Publications" in the Netherlands.
